Knotted Shoelaces

My oldest was probably only four years old when he showed me so proudly that he could tie his shoes. There they were, with the laces knotted together over and over until there was no more string left with which to work. How proud he was, and how I smiled. Someone emailed me the other day to tell me that she thinks I’m a lovely person and all, but that my writings have too much of a ‘religious’ tone to them. She was polite and appreciative, but clearly wishing she could learn the principles from a more secular point of view.
